Arsenal Preparing £25m Lewandowski Bid But Man City Also Keen
Arsenal are preparing a £25m bid for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski but could face competition from Man City when the transfer window re-opens.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Arsenal and Man City are linked with Robert Lewandowski.
Arsenal are preparing a £25m bid for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski but could face competition from Manchester City when the transfer window re-opens in January, according to the Mirror.
The Polish hitman is in the final year of his contract at Dortmund and it was widely reported that he’d already agreed to sign for Bayern Munich on a free transfer next summer.
However, the 25-old-year revealed last week that no deal with the European champions had been agreed and alerted his Premier League suitors by confirming his desire to play in England one day. He said:
‘I will be able to sign a contract (with any club) in January, but I have never said that I will sign a contract with Bayern,’
‘It was a misunderstanding. It is true I had an opportunity to speak with Sir Alex Ferguson (last year), but we didn’t mention the transfer.
‘One day I would like to play in Premier League. It would be a great experience.’ Lewandowski is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail
So it appears Lewandowski’s future remains up in the air and the Mirror claim that Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in signing him this winter, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said to be intent on bringing in a world class striker and will test Dortmund’s resolve with a £25m bid.
However, City boss Manuel Pellegrini is also believed to be a fan and the report suggests that he is prepared to offer Edin Dzeko in part exchange, with the Bosnian striker in the last two years of his deal at the Etihad.
Lewandowski’s future is certainly an interesting one as it’s not often one of the best strikers in the world is up for grabs. Dortmund have made it clear they wont sell to arch rivals Munich so may be prepared to cash in and sell abroad in January not only to ensure they receive a fee for the striker, but also to prevent him from joining Bayern on a free in the summer.
Whether Lewandowski will opt to come to England now or wait till the summer to decide on his next club remains to be seen, but if Arsenal or City manage to land him this winter it would certainly be a major coup.
