Transfer News: Arsenal & Liverpool Eye Greek Hitman | Moyes Prepares £25m Bid
Latest transfer gossip. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with a Greek striker and Manchester United are preparing a £25m bid for Roma’s Miralem Pjanic.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool are linked with a Greek striker and Man Utd are preparing a £25m bid for Miralem Pjanic.
Arsenal & Liverpool eye Mitroglou
First up and the Daily Star are reporting that Arsenal and Liverpool have joined Borussia Dortmund in showing an interest in Greek international hitman Kostas Mitroglou.
The 25-year-old has been in sensational form so far this season for Olympiacos – scoring 14 goals in 14 games – while he’s also helped his country reach the World Cup play-off round where they will meet Romania for a place at Brazil 2014.
His impressive display’s appear to have caught the eye of a number of European clubs with the Star claiming that Arsenal and Liverpool are ready to battle German giants Dortmund for his signature. The newspaper suggests that Olympiacos will demand at least £7m for his signature but will hope to generate a bidding war between the trio.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is understood to have funds available to spend in January and a striker is likely to be on the agenda with the club heavily reliant on Olivier Giroud up top.
Liverpool have one of the deadliest strike-forces in the Premier League with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez both regularly among the goals this season, but it seems Brendan Rodgers is keen to add more depth and Mitroglou would certainly provide some competition to ‘SAS’ if they could lure him to Anfield.
Moyes preparing £25m bid
Next up and the Express are reporting that Manchester United boss David Moyes is lining-up a £25m bid for Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic this winter.
The report claims that the 23-year-old was linked with Spurs in the summer before the north Londoners opted to sign Erik Lamela, leaving the Italians reluctant to offload Pjanic as well.
The Bosnian international has continued his good form this season with his eight goals helping Roma to a stunning start where they lead Serie A after winning each of their opening 9 games.
The Express suggest that Moyes has had his scouts watch the midfielder closely in recent months and is now prepared to test Roma’s resolve with a £25m bid when the transfer window opens in January.
United have endured a difficult season so far and could certainly do with more creativity in midfield, so the addition of Pjanic would be a smart one if Moyes could pull it off.
