Arsenal have missed out on the signing of highly-rated German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen after Barcelona agreed an £8m deal with Borussia Monchengladbach
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Arsenal miss out on Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Arsenal have missed out on the signing of German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen after Barcelona agreed an £8m deal with Borussia Monchengladbach to sign him next summer, according to talkSPORT.
The 21-year-old has emerged as one of the most highly-rated young goalkeepers in Europe after a string of impressive display’s for Monchengladbach over the past 12 months and his fine form has seen him break into the German national team.
It seems ter Stegen’s potential hasn’t gone unnoticed in north London either with talkSPORT claiming that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was keen on bringing him to the Emirates as competition for Wojciech Szczesny.
However, it appears the Gunners have missed out with the report suggesting that Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta travelled to Dusseldorf on Monday to finalise an £8m deal that will see the youngster make the move to the Nou Camp next summer.
The Catalans are on the look-out for a long-term replacement for Victor Valdes – who will leave the club when his contract expires in June – and ter Stegen is now set to join the La Liga champions at the end of the season.
It’s not all bad news for Arsenal though as current No.1 Wojciech Szczesny has began the season in superb fashion, helping them to the top of the Premier League table with a string of impressive displays, and at 23 the young Pole still has his whole career ahead of him and will only get better the more experience he gains.
