Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere looks set to sit out England’s friendly with Germany next week after lengthy talks between Arsene Wenger and Roy Hodgson, according to the Mirror.
The 21-year-old has been called up to the England squad for their two up-coming friendlies against Chile and Germany despite not starting for the Gunners in recent weeks due to a niggling ankle injury.
The Mirror claim Wenger has spoken to Three Lions boss Hodgson at length and requested that Wilshere only play against Chile on Friday to give him a full week’s rest between games.
Hodgson is also mindful of aggravating the midfielders ankle so looks set to grant Wenger his wish, meaning Wilshere is likely to sit out next weeks clash against Germany at Wembley.
Wilshere has been plagued by ankle injuries for over two years and his troubles have continued this campaign, and Arsenal have been forced to put him on a special training programme to allow his ankle to recover between games as it has a tendency to flare up.
Resting him against the German’s will ensure his ankle has adequate time to heal in preparation for Arsenal’s game against Southampton at the Emirates’s next Saturday.
