Manchester United boss David Moyes is plotting an audacious move for Andres Iniesta after being alerted to a growing rift between the midfielder and Barcelona over a new contract, according to the Daily Mail.
Iniesta has been widely regarded as one of the best players on the planet over the last five years and it’s almost unthinkable that he would leave the club he’s spent his entire career at.
However, he has just 18 months left to run on his current deal at the Nou Camp and the Mail claim that their is a growing rift between the 29-year-old and Barca officials over an extension that could see Iniesta consider ending his 17-year association with the club.
The report suggests that talks over a new deal have so far failed and the impasse is leading to further frustration in the players camp, with Iniesta understood to already be angered by the departure of Pep Guardiola and head physio Emili Ricart – who played a key role in helping the player overcome a number of injuries in recent years.
The newspaper claims that Moyes is carefully watching the situation and is prepared to make a stunning move for the playmaker as early as January with Iniesta said to be giving ‘serious consideration’ to joining the growing number of Spanish international’s plying their trade in the Premier League.
It would be the greatest coup in recent memory if Moyes could somehow pull it off and would re-establish United as a big player in the transfer market after a frustrating summer.
