Moyes Dealt Double Blow As United Look Set To Miss Out On German Duo
Man Utd look set to miss out on two further transfer targets with Borussia Dortmund duo Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan both set to slip through their grasp.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Man Utd looks set to miss out on two German midfielder.
Manchester United look set to miss out on two further transfer targets with Borussia Dortmund duo Marco Reus and Ilkay Gundogan both set to slip through their grasp, according to the Daily Mail.
Reports in recent weeks have suggested that United boss David Moyes wants to try and add to his midfield options and had identified the German pair as key targets – but it appears he’s set to face yet more transfer frustration.
Reus has a £29.4m buy-out fee in his contract and United had planned to trigger the clause and lure him to Old Trafford. However, the Mail claim that the 24-year-old has already turned down initial advances from not only United but also from their rivals City, and is expected to sign a new deal at the Westfalenstadion that will see him rewarded with a hefty pay rise and the release clause removed.
A Dortmund source told the newspaper that Reus sees his immediate future in Germany:
‘He sees his future here for a few more seasons yet, and the expectation is that he will sign a new contract.’
Moyes pursuit of Reus’ team-mate Gundogan also looks set to end in failure with the report claiming that the German ace has already agreed personal terms over a move to Real Madrid and will seal a £25m switch to the Bernabeu.
Gundogan has just 18 months left to run on his current contract and so far talks over an extension have fallen flat, and it seems Dortmund are ready to cash in either in January or in the summer rather than risk losing him for nothing when his deal expires.
If, as expected, United miss out on Reus and Gundogan then they will join a long list of names that Moyes has missed out on since taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson in the Old Trafford hot seat.
