Chelsea Ready To Bid £25m For Arsenal Midfield Target

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is ready to table a £25m bid for Marseille’s bad-boy defensive midfielder, Giannelli Imbula, who’s also been linked with Arsenal, according to the Express.

Imbula only joined Marseille from Guingamp in the summer and enjoyed a promising start to life at the Stade Vélodrome, making 12 appearances so far in Ligue 1. However, the 21-year-old has hit the headlines in his homeland after being kicked out of the France Under-21 squad earlier this week following a clash with a member of the backroom staff and was subsequently forced to make a public apology.

There are also reports claiming that Imbula has fallen out with some of the coaches at Marseille which has seen him dropped to the bench in recent games, leading to question marks over his future at the club.

The Express claim that Arsenal and Chelsea have been keeping a close eye on the powerful midfielders progress this season with scouts from the Premiership duo thought to be in regular attendance.

But it appears the Blues are ready to try and beat their London rivals to the Belgian-born midfielders signature with the newspaper suggesting Jose Mourinho sees Imbula as the perfect foil to his more attack-minded players and is ready to table a £25m bid.

Whether Marseille would be willing to sell either in January or in the summer remains to be seen, but an offer of £25m would see them record a huge profit on the fee they paid for the youngster just 4 months ago, so they might be tempted to cash in.
