Suarez Offered To Real Madrid In January To Prevent Him Joining Arsenal
Marca claim that Liverpool have offered Real Madrid the chance to sign striker Luis Suarez in January in order to prevent him joining domestic rivals Arsenal
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, have Liverpool offered Luis Suarez to Real Madrid?
Some interesting reports coming out of Spain today with Marca claiming that Liverpool have offered Real Madrid the chance to sign Luis Suarez in January in order to prevent him joining Arsenal.
The future of Suarez filled the back pages throughout the summer after the Uruguayan hitman went public with his desire to leave Liverpool in order to play Champions League football.
Arsenal were pushing hard to try and lure him to the Emirates and saw two bids rejected by the Merseysiders, with the Reds owners insisting their star man wouldn’t be sold at any price.
Reports have suggested in recent weeks that Arsenal and Real Madrid have maintained their interest in the 26-year-old but it always appeared unlikely that Liverpool would agree to sell.
However, Spanish outlet Marca tell a very different story. They claim that Liverpool had agreed to sell the striker to Madrid in the summer with Pere Guardiola – Suarez’s agent – said to have agreed personal terms after a €45m fee was agreed between the clubs. Apparently the only thing that prevented the deal going through was that Madrid didn’t tie up the purchase of Gareth Bale and sell Mesut Ozil quickly enough to leave them time to seal the Suarez transfer.
The newspaper also states that Suarez has “once again been offered to the Bernabeu club” with the Daily Star claiming they are doing so to prevent the striker from joining Premier League rivals Arsenal in the summer.
It all sounds hugely unlikely and it’s most probably Marca trying to use their influence to rock the boat in the Suarez camp. The newspaper is notorious for using underhand tactics to sway transfers in Madrid’s favour. You only have to look at what they did in the summer with the Gareth Bale saga to know that.
The idea that Liverpool are actively seeking to sell Suarez is preposterous. He is the heart beat of their team and they made it abundantly clear in the summer that they weren’t selling to any club, at any price, and I doubt that stance has changed over the past few weeks – particularly after Brendan Rodgers side have made such a positive start to the season.
So I say ignore what Marca are reporting, there is very little chance we’ll see Suarez join Madrid, Arsenal, or any other club this January. The summer may be a different story, especially if Liverpool don’t qualify for the Champions League, but for now he’ll remain an Anfield Red.
