Arsenal Agree £16.5m Deal To Sign Spanish Winger?
According to reports coming out of Spain today, Arsenal have agreed a £16.5m (€20m) deal to sign a highly-rated Spanish winger from La Liga club Real Betis.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Arsenal are reported to have agreed a deal to sign a Spanish winger.
According to reports coming out of Spain today, Arsenal have agreed a £16.5m (€20m) deal to sign highly-rated Real Betis winger Alvaro Vadillo.
Media outlet Punto Pelota carry quotes from a Spanish journalist, Pipi Estrada, who claims to have it on good knowledge that Gunners officials have been in advanced talks with Betis in recent weeks and Vadillo now has “one foot in the door at Arsenal” after we apparently secured a £16.5m deal for his services.
Estrada goes on to state that Arsene Wenger played a key role in the negotiations and the 19-year-old is now on the verge of becoming an Arsenal player, with “signing the paperwork” the only thing left to do – suggesting that personal terms have also been agreed with the player.
Vadillo burst onto the scene when he became the second youngest player ever to play in La Liga, making his debut for Betis as a 16-year-old towards the end of 2011.
He managed to get a handful of first team appearances under his belt and was impressing with his skill and pace before he was cruelly sidelined for several months when he tore a ligament in his knee. However, he’s back playing again and has made 10 appearances so far this season, and he could have earned himself a big-money move to the Emirates if these reports in Spain are to be believed.
I expect it won’t be long before the British press pick up on this story, but as yet there is nothing concrete coming out from either Arsenal or Betis, so it’s probably best we wait for some sort of official conformation before we take anything as fact.
But say we do sign this lad, is he the sort of player we need right now? I haven’t seen enough of him to make too much of a judgement, but I’d like to think we have an abundance of young attacking talent at the club already and I’d prefer we spent the money on a proven striker.
However, with that said, I’m all for strengthening the squad so if Arsene feels he can make an impact, then who am I to judge.
