Wenger Eyeing Everton Ace As Doubts Continue Over Future Of Bacary Sagna
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made Everton’s Seamus Coleman his number one target if right-back Bacary Sagna fails to sign a contract extension at the club.
Although the summer transfer window is officially closed that doesn’t stop clubs working hard behind the scenes to prepare for future signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest gossip. Today, Arsenal are linked with a move for Seamus Coleman.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made Everton’s Seamus Coleman his number one target if Bacary Sagna fails to sign a contract extension at the club, according to the Mirror.
Sagna has just over six months remaining on his current deal at the Emirates and has so far been unable to reach an agreement over an extension despite holding several rounds of talks with the club.
Speculation continues to link the 30-year-old with a move back to his native France and it seems Wenger is now drawing up a list of potential replacements in case the right-back does leave on a free transfer this summer.
The Mirror claims that while Wenger’s preferred option would be to persuade Sagna to pen a new deal, he has made Everton’s Seamus Coleman his number one target to replace the experienced defender if he does end up leaving.
The newspaper suggests that the Gunners manager has been impressed by Coleman’s form under Roberto Martinez and will move for the 25-year-old if needs be in the summer. However, with the Ireland ace tied to a new contract at Goodison Park, the report states he’s likely to cost at least £10m.
That kind of fee seems very reasonable to me and I think Coleman would be a excellent replacement for Sagna. He’s got plenty of experience in the Premier League, is very attack minded and should fit in well to our system.
However, I’d still love to see Sagna stay for at least another year. He’s regained his best form this season and still has another couple of years at the very top left in him. Hopefully we can get his future resolved in the next month or so because he’ll be able to talk with foreign clubs over a free transfer summer move as of January 1st, at which point you’d expect the likes of Monaco and PSG to try and turn his head with a big-money offer.
