Arsenal have a ‘breakthrough’ in their pursuit of Barcelona starlet Antonio Sanabria after he rejected the Catalans latest contract and confirmed his willingness to move to London, according to the Daily Mail.
Sanabria is one of the most highly-rated youngsters to be emerging from the Barca youth academy and despite being a regular in their B team, he’s been invited to train with the first team on several occasions.
However, it seems the 17-year-old is eager for first team football and is set to leave the Nou Camp after snubbing their latest contract offer with Barca refusing to meet his demands.
The Mail claim that Arsenal are the front-runners to secure his signature and have moved a step closer after the young striker informed the club that he is willing to make the move to north London – although he wants assurances over how Arsene Wenger plans to fast track him to the first team before he’ll commit to any move.
The newspaper suggests that we’re hoping to sign Sanabria in January and will trigger a £2.5m buy-out clause in his youth contract in order to do so, but AS Roma are also in the hunt while Barcelona are still keen on trying to tie him down to his first professional contract when he turns 18 next March.
Sanabria has already been capped by Paraguay and won’t be the first highly-rated youngster to be snared by Arsenal if he does end up moving to the Emirates, with Wenger previously raiding the Catalans youth ranks for the likes of Jon Toral, Fran Merida, Hector Bellerin, Julio Pleguezuelo Selva and most famously Cesc Fabregas in recent years.
