Arsene Wenger Still ‘Dreaming’ Of Suarez
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken of his admiration for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez just months after trying to sign him, according to Sky Sports News.
With the January transfer window just around the corner, managers will be working hard to identify potential new signings, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest transfer gossip. Today, Arsene Wenger praises Luis Suarez.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken of his admiration for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez just months after trying to sign him, according to Sky Sports News.
The future of Suarez filled the back pages throughout the summer after the Uruguayan hitman went public with his desire to leave Liverpool in order to play Champions League football.
Arsenal did their best to try and lure him to the Emirates but saw two bids rejected by the Merseysiders, with the Reds owners insisting their star man wouldn’t be sold at any price.
Suarez has since settled his differences with Liverpool and was even made captain on Sunday as his two goals and two assists helped Brendan Rodger’s side thrash Tottenham 5-0 at White Hart Lane.
Arsene Wenger watched the game as a pundit for French television and after the game the Arsenal manager praised the 26-year-old and said every manager ‘dreams’ of having a player like him in their team.
“I think that every defender in England hates playing against him,”
“He has a strong, provocative personality. From the information I gathered on him it appears that on a day-to-day level he is really easy to work with.
“Also that he’s respectful, he loves training, he’s an angel. He turns into a demon when he’s on the pitch.
“We all dream about having players like that.” Wenger is quoted as saying by Sky Sports
Wenger admission comes days after reports suggested the Frenchman was still keeping tabs on Suarez ahead of a potential move when the transfer window re-opened in January.
However, while a move for Suarez to Arsenal in the summer was unlikely, and potential switch to north London is now almost unthinkable. The controversial striker has been central to Liverpool’s improved form this season with his 17 goals and 10 assists in just 11 games seeing them cement themselves as genuine title contenders.
So while Wenger may be a huge admirer of the players, I don’t think we’ll see Suarez under the tutelage of the Gunners boss any time soon.
