Arsenal & Liverpool Monitoring Striker But Will £125m Buy-Out Fee Prove Problematic?

Arsenal and Liverpool are continuing to monitor Pedro’s situation at Barcelona with the striker admitting he may be forced to re-evaluate his future at the Nou Camp, according to the Express.

The Spanish international has been with Barca since he was a youngster and came through their youth ranks before breaking into the first team set up in 2009/10, when he made 52 appearances – scoring an impressive 23 goals.

It looked as though he was going to go on and cement himself as a regular in the Catalans starting eleven after another impressive season in 2010/11 but his career appears to have stalled somewhat in recent years.

The attacker has been on the periphery of Tata Martino’s plans this season, with the likes of Neymar, Alexis Sanchez, Cesc Fabregas and of course, Lionnel Messi, all ahead of him in the pecking order leading to speculation he could look for a move.

The Express claim the 26-year-old has previously admitted he was open to the idea of switching clubs in the January transfer window in order to secure more regular first team action ahead of the 2014 World Cup, and now it seems the player has once again questioned his long-term future at the club.

Pedro has been quoted by the newspaper as saying that while his priority is to stay with the La Liga champions, he will consider his future if his playing time doesn’t improve.

“I am happy with Barcelona, but things have to be evaluated every season,” he said.

“My goal is to try and stay at this club where I feel very valued and loved.

“When you play less you do not feel less important, but it is true that you notice playing fewer minutes and it is different.

“But I must fight for my only goal, which is to continue with Barca.”

Pedro’s contract runs until 2016 so Barcelona would be under no immediate pressure to sell if the player asked for a move, but even more problematic for Arsenal and Liverpool is the Spaniard’s buy-out clause, which is reportedly an eye-watering £125m.

Of course Barca are unlikely to demand such a figure if they decided to sell, but it means they are protected against selling him against their wishes.
