Liverpool have made a move to try and hijack Arsenal’s bid to sign Alvaro Morata on a six-month loan deal from Real Madrid this month, according to reports.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with a swoop for the Spanish under-21 star with boss Arsene Wenger understood to be desperate to bring in another striker following injuries to Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner.
The Metro claim the north Londoners are already in talks with Madrid about taking Morata on loan for the rest of the season and will look to seal the deal by offering a £2m loan fee over the coming days.
However, it seems Arsenal are not the only Premier League club keen on the 21-year-old with reports coming out of Spain suggesting that Liverpool have already made attempts to hijack the deal by making a formal offer to the La Liga giants.
The Express state that Spanish daily newspaper ‘Marca’ are claiming that Brendan Rodgers has already asked to take Morata on loan for the rest of the season, but Madrid have insisted they are not interested in letting the young striker leave in January.
Morata is highly-rated at the Bernabeu after starring for their B team in recent years, but he’s struggling to get regular game-time under Carlo Ancelotti this season with the likes of Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jesse all ahead of him in the pecking order.
A loan seemed like it would suit all parties, but it appears that despite the efforts of Arsenal and Liverpool, Madrid are so far unwilling to let the young hot-shot leave on a short-term basis.
