Gundogan Holds Talks With Man Utd As Moyes Prepares £24m Bid – But Is He The Answer?

By on January 12, 2014

With the January transfer window now open for business clubs will be working hard to try and strengthen their squad for the second half of the season, so we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Man Utd are linked with Ilkay Gundogan.

Transfer nEWS

Manchester United have already held talks with the representatives of Ilkay Gundogan and are ready to table a £24m bid for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder, according to the Mirror.

United have endured a terrible season so far with David Moyes side currently well off the pace in the Premier League, were dumped out of the FA Cup by Swansea City last weekend and will need to overturn a 2-1 deficit against Sunderland to reach the final of the Capital One Cup.

With pressure mounting on Moyes’ shoulders it’s no surprise to read that he’s making attempts to bring in a marquee signing and the Mirror seem to think things are well under way in trying to lure highly-rated German midfielder Gundogan to Old Trafford.

The report states that the 23-year-old’s representatives have already held talks with United chiefs and the defending champions are now ready to test Dortmund’s resolve with a £24m bid.

Midfield is certainly an area I’d expect Moyes to look at strengthening given the lack of options he currently has in this department, but I’m not convinced Gundogan is the answer to his problems.

While there is little doubt he’s an excellent player, United look as though they need a creative head in the center of the park and Gundogan isn’t known for his goals or assists. In fact, he’s managed just 10 goals in over 80 appearances for Dortmund over the last three seasons.

He would also pose something of a risky signing if United did splash around £24m on him when you consider that the player hasn’t featured since August due to a serious back injury. He also has just 18 months left to run on his contract at the Westfalenstadion, so United could pick him up for much less come the summer.

No doubt United fans would be over the moon if this proposed deal came off, but I think Moyes could spend the money more wisely by buying a player who will contribute more in the final third and bring a bit of flair back to the side.

The author of this article clearly doesn’t understand soccer! Gundogan is far much better than all the defensive midfielders we have. Having him and Kagawa in the midfield is a match made in heaven ‘baba’

Last transfer window….Man Utd were linked with over 20players…and atlast he bought Fellaini, who came to add to man utd problems.I hope Gundogan will be able to play in Man Utd..now man utd have been linked to several players again…hope he eventually buy one or 2….and I will love to see Mata in Man Utd….he will be one of the instrument we need. To get to top four this season.

man u is a team that can score at anytime bcos it has goal machines like van persie, Hernandez, welbeck, Rooney, januzac, Kagawa, etc. But we lack ball winners and distributors . And in my candid opinion gundogan is the kinda midfielder united needs

Get Cabaye( a player that’s proven in the EPL; can play set piece, has good shooting ability, a good passer of the ball and a cheaper option)

I believe some of us doesn’t know what we need,
buy Reus? yeah he’s a fantastic player that play on the wing and a false ten or ten; now he’s good when the ball is upwards but don’t forget that the ball has to get to the final third in other to capitalize on it, now no ball winner,no ball distributor, how would he get he’s share? think no matter how good he is he needs service..
Now take a look at Rooney;he drops from the number 10 role to 8,then the striking partner drops to number 10 role which allows opposition to play high defensive backline” ,that’s why we won’t be able to hold on to the ball for long. Or the striking partner gets isolated up field.(so from my own opinion;a deep lying playmaker is our priority and if we should succeed in bringing in Gundogan? i hope he answers it!…GGMU.
note.. I myt wronf no 1 is above it.
