Chelsea skipper John Terry is set to back down and sign a new one-year contract at Chelsea, according to the Daily Mail.

The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and speculation over his future has been filling the back pages in recent months with contract talks over an extension reaching a stalemate.

Terry is understood to have been demanding a two-year deal on the same £150,000-a-week wage he’s on now while the Blues have insisted he’ll only be offered a one-year extension – in-line with the clubs policy regarding players over the age of 30.

The likes of Galatasaray have been strongly linked with making big-money offers to try and lure Terry to Turkey, but it seems the return of Jose Mourinho and the recent improvements being shown on the pitch have persuaded the experienced centre-back to back down over his demands.

The Mail claim that Terry is so determined to continue on at Stamford Bridge that he’s now accepted he won’t get his two year contract and is set to pen a one-year extension which will take him up to 18 seasons with the club.

Terry has been with Chelsea since he was 14 and came through the youth academy before breaking into the first team as a 17-year-old back in 1998. He’s since gone on to make over 600 appearances for the club and lifted a number of top honours including 3 Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2012.

After a difficult season last year, he’s regained his best form under Jose Mourinho in recent months and has helped the club mount a serious title challenge this season as well as reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

From the outside, it looks like he’s got his appetite back and it seems he’s not ready to give up on his Chelsea dream just yet with a new one-year extension expected to be signed soon.
