Tottenham Hotspur take on Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Wednesday night looking to continue their push for a top four spot.
Spurs sit just three points off fourth-placed Liverpool following their 1-0 win over Everton on Sunday so will be keen to pick up another win to keep the pressure on the Merseysiders.
The north Londoners have been impressive on their travels this season, winning eight of their twelve away games so far, so should be confident of keeping their Champions League dream alive with a positive result tonight.
Newcastle on the other hand are desperate to stop the rot having losing their last two games to Sunderland and Chelsea. The Geordies sit comfortably in mid-table but haven’t won on home soil since beating Stoke City 5-1 on Boxing Day, so they will be keen to get back to winning ways this evening.
The hosts won the reverse fixture 1-0 at White Hart Lane earlier in the season, but Alan Pardew will be conscious of not letting their season fizzle out.
Team News
Newcastle will once again be without striker Loic Remy, who serves the final game of his three-match ban. Shola Ameobi could therefore spearhead the attack supported by January signing Luke de Jong.
Pardew has some injury problems to deal with. Influential defender Fabricio Coloccini is still out with a knee injury and he’s joined on the sidelines by right-back Matheiu Debuchy – who picked up a calf strain at the weekend. Midfielder Cheick Tiote remains out with a hamstring injury while Gabriel Obertan and Gael Bigirimana are also out through injury.
There could be some good news though, with Yoan Gouffran likely to be passed fit after a muscle strain and Papiss Cisse is also close to recovering from a back injury.
Spurs boss Tim Sherwood could recall winger Andros Townsend after he made a successful comeback from the bench at the weekend.
However, defender Vlad Chiriches has suffered a set back in his recovery from a back injury and he’ll be out for at least another month while Younes Kaboul is still lacking match fitness.
Sandro is also still working his way back to full fitness from a calf strain while Erik Lamela remains out with a thigh problem.
Likely Line-Ups
Key Man
Emmanuel Adebayor: The giant Togolese striker was once again the match winner on Sunday and we think he’ll be the man to keep an eye on tonight again. Newcastle will have to keep him quiet if they want to get a result.
Predicted Score
Newcastle 1-1 Tottenham: The Geordies are due a good performance at home and we think the wet and blustery conditions will suit the home side more than Spurs, which could see the game end in a stalemate.
