Moyes Keen On £8m Uruguay International
Man Utd look like they are beginning to plan for the departure of Nemanja Vidic with David Moyes eyeing Juventus outcast Martin Caceres as a potential signing
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Man Utd are linked with Martin Cáceres.
Manchester United look like they are beginning to plan for life without Nemanja Vidic with David Moyes eyeing Juventus outcast Martin Caceres as a potential summer signing, according to talkSPORT.
Vidic confirmed earlier this month that he’s decided to end his eight-year stay at Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season giving Moyes a huge void to fill in the center of his defence.
talkSPORT claim that United chiefs are ready to hand the Scot a sizeable transfer fund after a disastrous first season in charge since replacing Sir Alex Ferguson, and as well as two full-backs and a midfielder, a new centre back has become a priority.
The report suggests that Caceres has emerged as a potential target and would cost the champions around £8m, which would represent great value for a player with his experience and who’s still got his best years ahead of him.
Moyes is likely to be attracted by the players versatility with Caceres able to play anywhere across the back line – although his predominant position is in the middle of defence.
The defender joined Juve for the second time in 2012 following a loan spell back in 2010 but things haven’t gone to plan for the 26-year-old as he’s fallen out-of-favour under boss Antonio Conte and has made just five league appearances this season.
With over 50 caps for Uruguay, Caceres would bring with him vast experience if he was to make the move to Old Trafford in the summer. However, one concern Moyes may have is the fact he’s already played for six clubs in his short career which may suggest he struggles to settle and establish himself as an important first team player.
Whoever United bring in to replace Vidic at the end of the season, he’s going to have some huge boots to fill and it looks like a new center back will be just one part of a major rebuilding job at Old Trafford.
