Arsenal Will Trigger France Strikers £8m Release Clause This Summer
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to sign France striker Loic Remy and will trigger an £8m buy out clause in the players Queens Park Rangers contract this summer
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Arsenal are linked with Loic Remy.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to sign France striker Loic Remy and will trigger an £8million buy out clause in the players Queens Park Rangers contract this summer, according to the Mirror.
Remy has enjoyed an excellent season on loan at Newcastle United, where he has scored 13 goals so far this term, and it seems he’s done enough to convince the boss that he has what it takes to cut it at the top level.
The Mirror claim that the 27-year-old has a get-out clause in his contract at parent club QPR that allows him to leave should someone bid £8million, and they suggest that Wenger will match that figure and use the lure of Champions League football as a way of beating Newcastle to his signature.
Nicklas Bendtner is almost certain to leave when his contract expires while there are also rumours that Lukas Podolski could also be off, so it’s clear we’re going to need to bring in at least one striker this summer. Joel Campbell could be given the chance to stake his claim for a place in the squad after impressing on loan at Olympiakos, but I still think we’ll need another experienced front-man to support Olivier Giroud next season.

Remy would be a decent signing and the fact he’s proven he can score goals in the Premier League and is available at a cut-price fee makes him an attractive proposition. He would also bring some much-needed pace to the side and he’d certainly offer something different what we already have in Giroud and Sanogo, so I think he could be a shrewd signing if Wenger can pull it off.
