United Lining-Up Player-Plus-Cash Swap Deal For German International
Manchester United are ready to use the out of favour Shinji Kagawa as part of a player-plus-cash swap deal to land a German international attacking midfielder.
The January transfer window may have slammed shut but clubs will still be working hard behind the scenes at identifying targets for the summer, so we’ll bring you all the latest news, gossip and rumours. Today, Manchester United prepare an offer for Marco Reus.
Manchester United will try and tempt Borussia Dortmund with Shinji Kagawa as part of a player-plus-cash offer for exciting attacker Marco Reus this summer, according to the Mirror.
Kagawa has endured a hugely frustrating 18 months at United after making a move from Borussia Dortmund in 2012, and has made just 10 appearances in the Premier League this season with many of those coming as a substitute.
His lack of regular playing time under new boss David Moyes has seen the Japanese international strongly linked with a move away from Old Trafford and it seems the 24-year-old could be heading back to his former club.
The Mirror claim that United are going to offer Dortmund the chance to take Kagawa back as part of a player-plus-cash swap deal that would see Marco Reus make a switch to the defending champions.
The newspaper suggests that Moyes has had his eye on Reus for some time and is now willing to try and tempt the Bundesliga outfit into a swap deal having failed to persuade them to cash in during the January transfer window.
There is no mention of what kind of cash sum United are willing to pay in addition to giving them Kagawa, but you’d expect it’s going to take something in the region of £30m to twist Dortmund’s arm into parting with another one of their star men.
Last years Champions League finalists have already seen Mario Gotze join Bayern Munich while Roberto Lewandowski is set to follow him to the Allianz Arena this summer, so Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to keep hold of Reus to prevent his team from being dismantled any further.
United are almost certainly going to be spending heavily in the transfer market this summer after a disappointing season but it’s likely to end with them missing out on Champions League qualification, so it remains to be seen whether they’ll be able to attract players like Reus this summer.
However, if they could somehow persuade the 24-year-old German international to move to Old Trafford, including Kagawa in a swap deal would make a lot of sense as it would provide Dortmund with a ready-made replacement as well as a sizeable sum to reinvest, while United would get rid of a player that’s clearly not part of their plans and acquire one of the most exciting attackers in Europe.
