United May Have To Wait To Land £25m-Rated Target
Man Utd may have to wait to land Toni Kroos with Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge adamant the midfielder will remain with the club next season
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Toni Kroos looks likely to stay at Bayern Munich.
Manchester United may have to wait to get their hands on Toni Kroos with Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge adamant the midfielder will remain with the club next season, according to the Mirror.
The German international’s contract has just over one year left to run and he’s so far been unable to agree terms with the Bundesliga champions over an extension leading to intense speculation over his future.
Manchester United have been strongly linked with the 24-year-old in recent months with David Moyes understood to have sent scouts to keep a close eye on him on several occasions ahead of a potential summer move.
The Daily Mail reported recently that the Scot had made Kroos his top summer target and was ready to offer Bayern £25m to take him to Old Trafford at the end of the season if a new deal still hadn’t been agreed.
The midfielder helped Bayern to a 1-1 draw against United in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final on Tuesday, and he remained coy over any possible move when he was asked about making Old Trafford his permanent home this summer:
“It is a beautiful stadium. But I belong to Bayern Munich and that’s good.” Kroos is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
It appears United are going to have their work cut out in trying to persuade the German giants to part ways with the player this summer, despite his precarious contract situation, with Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insisting he will still be at the club next season. However, the supremo admitted he didn’t know what would happen when his contract expired in 2015.
“[Kroos] will certainly play at Bayern next year,” he said. “What’s beyond that, I don’t know.” Rummenigge is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
The Red Devils have endured a difficult season and Moyes is expected to be heavily active in the market this summer, if he manages to hold on to his job. Many United fans have been calling for his head, but even those supporters may be placated if the former Everton man was able to land Kroos.
United have certainly lacked quality in the center of the park at times this season and a player of Kroos’ ability would add a whole new dimension to their team, but it looks like they may have to wait at least another year before potentially getting their hands on him, with Bayern seemingly willing to let him run into the final year of his deal.
