United Chiefs Ready To Back Moyes With €48m Midfielder Bid
Man Utd bosses are ready to back boss David Moyes and try and tempt Bayern Munich with a huge €48m offer for midfielder Toni Kroos at the end of the season.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are ready to make a huge play for Toni Kroos.
Manchester United bosses are ready to back boss David Moyes in the transfer market and try and tempt Bayern Munich with a huge €48m (£40m) offer for Toni Kroos this summer, according to the Mirror.
The German international’s contract expires in just over 12 months time and he’s so far been unable to agree terms with the European champions over an extension, leading to speculation he could be on the move this summer.
United have been strongly linked with the 24-year-old in recent months with David Moyes understood to have made the midfielder one of his key summer targets ahead of what’s going to be a huge rebuilding project at Old Trafford.
Bayern have insisted they wont let Kroos leave at the end of the season, even if it means they lose him for nothing in 2015, with chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge adamant the player will remain at the club next season.
“[Kroos] will certainly play at Bayern next year,” he said. “What’s beyond that, I don’t know.” Rummenigge is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
However, it seems the Red Devils are ready to put that stance to the test with the Mirror reporting that United chiefs are willing to back Moyes by tabling a club record €48m (£40m) bid. Such an offer would surely put Bayern in a difficult position, and it would be a brave call to reject £40m for a player who has just one year remaining on his contract and has shown no signs he’ll sign an extension.
Even if United are successful in getting Bayern to cash in, they would still have to persuade Kroos to join Moyes’ new project in Manchester, which won’t be easy if the club are unable to offer Champions League football. But the newspaper claims that United will look to overcome that hurdle by offering the midfielder the lucrative contract that Bayern are refusing to offer.
Whether that would be enough to twist the players arm remains to be seen, but it would be a sensational coup if United could pull it off. Central midfield is an area Moyes is expected to strengthen this summer and a player of Kroos’ ability would add a whole new dimension to United play.
