Tottenham Handed Huge Double Injury Boost Ahead Of Sunderland Clash
Tim Sherwood has confirmed the return of two key first team players ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s clash with Sunderland at White Hart Lane on Monday evening.
Tottenham Hotspur entertain Sunderland at White Hart Lane on Monday evening looking to get their season back on track after a disappointing couple of weeks.
Ahead of the game, boss Tim Sherwood has been speaking at his weekly press conference on Friday afternoon and gave TottenhamHotspur.com a team news and injury update, and he was pleased to reveal that he’s been handed a major double injury boost with striker Emmanuel Adebayor and defender Vlad Chiriches both back in contention.
Adebayor has missed the north Londoners last three matches after picking up a painful cut to his heel but the Togolese hitman has now returned to full training is is expected to start up front on Monday.
Chiriches has been sidelined for over eight weeks with a serious back injury but has trained all week and came through a 2-0 win over Arsenal with the Under-21 squad last Friday so is now considered fit to return to the first team squad.
His return to fitness is a timely one as Jan Vertonghen has been ruled out with an ankle that he picked up during the first half against Liverpool last weekend, while Roberto Soldado also suffered an injury during the defeat at Anfield and is ‘nowhere near ready’ to play again, according to Sherwood.
He told the clubs website:
“Jan and Roberto are nowhere near ready, unfortunately,”
“The good news is that Ade is back in training and up for selection and Vlad played in the Under-21 game against Arsenal at the Lane, came through that unscathed, so he will be up for selection as well.”
Tottenham will also be without right-back Kyle Walker who continues to nurse a pelvic injury while Erik Lamela remains on the sidelines with a back problem.
Spurs head into the weekend action sitting sixth following last weeks loss to Liverpool and are now eight points adrift of fourth-placed Arsenal with just six games to go, so they have it all to do if they’re to break into the top four.
