Liverpool produced another dogged performance to beat West Ham 2-1 at Upton Park and move back to the top of the Premier League table.
The Merseysiders were given the chance to open the scoring just before half time when James Tomkins handled in the area – Steven Gerrard made no mistake from the spot.
The Hammers levelled just a minute later in controversial circumstances when Guy Demel poked home from close range despite Andy Carroll fouling Simon Mignolet in the build-up.
However, there was further controversy when the Reds were awarded another penalty when Adrian was adjudged to have fouled Jon Flanagan in the box, and Gerrard tucked home his second of the game in the 71st minute to secure another win to move Liverpool two points clear of Man City.
