German Ace Tells Team-Mates He’s ‘Determined’ To Push Through £40m United Move
Toni Kroos has told team-mates he’s ‘determined’ to push through a £40m switch to Old Trafford this summer with Man Utd ready to offer him £200,000-a-week.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, some huge news concerning Manchester United’s interest in Toni Kroos.
Some interesting developments on Manchester United’s pursuit of Toni Kroos with the Mirror reporting that the midfielder has told team-mates he’s ‘determined’ to push through a £40m switch to Old Trafford this summer.
The German international’s future has been much speculated in recent months with his contract set to enter it’s final year and no sign of an agreement being reached with Bayern over an extension.
The stalemate has led to interest from Manchester United with reports last week suggesting the soon-to-be former Premier League champions were ready to test Munich’s resolve with a mammoth £40m offer and try and tempt the player with a £200,000-a-week contract.
Bayern have insisted the 24-year-old wont be allowed to leave this summer even if it means they risk losing him for nothing 12 months down the line. However, the Mirror claim that Kroos has already told team-mates he want’s to make the move to Manchester and is ‘determined’ to make it happen at the end of the season.
Many may be wondering why the player would want to leave the reigning European champions and arguably the best team in the world for Manchester United – who are odds-on to end the season without Champions League football to look forward to next season.
However, the newspaper suggests that the German has been swayed by the promise of a huge pay-day and would prefer to be the ‘main man’ at Old Trafford rather than playing second-fiddle to the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger at the Allianz Arena.
United are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer as David Moyes looks to rebuild his squad after a difficult first season in charge and if he could land Kroos it would be a huge coup and make it far easier for them to attract other world class players.
Midfield has certainly been an area that United have looked weak in this season with Marouane Fellaini struggling to live up to his price-tag and Tom Cleverley failing to impress. Moyes has even been forced to turn to 40-year-old Ryan Giggs at pivotal points of the season to solve his midfield woes, so it’s surely an area the club will strengthen this summer and Kroos would be an excellent addition.
If this report is accurate, then the player is keen for the move to happen but it remains to be seen whether United can strike a deal with Bayern and persuade them to cash in. While the Bundesliga champions don’t need the money, it would still be difficult for them to turn down a £40m bid for a player who’s in the final year of his contract and isn’t planning on signing an extension, so it will be interesting to see what happens if/when United make their move.
