Chelsea ‘Agree €60m Deal’ To Sign 36-Goal Striker This Summer
Chelsea have reportedly agreed a €60million (£50million) deal to sign Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa at the end of the season, according to the Metro.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, have Chelsea agreed a deal to sign Diego Costa?
Chelsea have reportedly agreed a €60m (£50m) deal to sign Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa at the end of the season, according to the Metro.
The Brazilian-born hitman has been in sensational form this campaign and scored his 27th league goal of the season during a 2-0 win over Getafe on Sunday to move Atletico three points clear of Real Madrid at the top of the La Liga table.
The 25-year-old clattered the post as he slid the ball over the line and was forced off on a stretcher with a nasty cut on his leg, but he’s since been cleared to face Chelsea next week in the first leg of their Champions League semi final clash.
It was Costa’s 36th goal in all competitions this season and understandably his excellent form has attracted interest from a number of top clubs throughout Europe.
However, it seems Chelsea could have already won the race for his signature with the Metro citing reports coming out of Spain that claim the Blues have already agreed a deal worth €60m (£50m) to sign the powerful striker, with the player believed to be set to make the move to Stamford Bridge on June 30.
Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to bring in a world class striker this summer after publicly criticising his current crop of front-men on several occasions this season, with Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres all struggling to find the net on a regular basis this term.
Costa has widely been suggested as the Portuguese coaches first choice target and if these reports are to be believed, Chelsea have already tied up a deal that would equal the record purchase of Fernando Torres from Liverpool.
It’s difficult to know how much truth there are in these reports though, but it is curious why they are claiming Chelsea would be paying £50m when Costa is understood to have a £32m buy-out clause in the contract he signed last August.
If the West Londoners do end up signing Costa, he would spearhead a formidable looking attack along side the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Willian next season and he might just be the missing piece in Mourinho’s jigsaw.
