Jose Boost As £80m Duo ‘Tell Friends’ They Want Chelsea Move This Summer
Chelsea have been handed a huge boost with PSG duo Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi telling friends that they both want to move to West London this summer.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi are linked with Chelsea.
Chelsea have been handed a huge boost with the Mirror reporting that PSG duo Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi have told close friends that they both want to move to West London this summer.
Blues boss Jose Mourinho has made no secret of his desire to bring in at least one world class forward this summer after complaining he ‘has no strikers’ this season, despite having Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres on the books at Stamford Bridge.
Speculation has suggested that Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa is the Portuguese coaches first choice target after a sensational season in Spain but it appears Mourinho now has two viable alternatives to consider.
The Mirror claim that the Blues have also been keeping an eye on Cavani and Lavezzi and have been boosted with the news that both have made it clear to friends they would like to make the move to Chelsea at the end of the season.
Uruguayan hit-man Cavani is understood to have become frustrated at having to play out-of-position to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the player confirmed earlier this month that he plans to hold talks with PSG officials at the end of the season about his future at the club.
Despite his unrest at playing on the wing, the 27-year-old has continued his excellent goal-scoring form since joining PSG from Napoli in the summer and has 22 goals in 37 games to his name so far this campaign. Lavezzi moved to the Parc des Princes a year earlier from Napoli and is less of a goal-threat, but still has 11 goals and 7 assists this season.
Mourinho cited both players as the type of striker he needed this summer after Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat in the first leg of their Champions League tie earlier this month, but he’s highly unlikely to sign both and much could depend on how negotiations go regarding Costa.
The Mirror claim that Cavani would command a fee in the region of £55m while Lavezzi would be far cheaper at around £25m, but Chelsea could look to lessen the financial outlay by using David Luiz as bait after refusing to sell either Eden Hazard or Oscar.
It’s clear Mourinho doesn’t really have much faith in any of his current strikers but there’s no denying they would be a far more devastating outfit going forward if they had the likes of Cavani, Lavezzi or Costa spearheading their attack, so it’s going to be interesting to see which front-man the Blues bring in this summer.
