Liverpool Tipped To Beat Man Utd To £25m Attacker
Liverpool are expected to beat Manchester United to the signing of £25m-rated Southampton attacker Adam Lallana this summer, according to the Daily Star.
As we approach the business end of the season clubs are starting to make plans for the summer transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are set to beat Man Utd to Adam Lallana.
Liverpool are expected to beat Manchester United to the signing of £25m-rated Southampton attacker Adam Lallana this summer, according to the Daily Star.
Lallana has been with the Saints his entire professional career and made his debut in the first team in 2006 having come through the clubs youth set up. The 25-year-old has now established himself as a vital member of Mauricio Pochettino’s side with his 9 goals in 36 games helping the club secure a top eight finish this season.
His impressive form has not only caught the eye of England boss Roy Hodgson – with Lallana expected to be on the plane to Brazil this summer – but he’s also attracted interest from the upper echelons of the Premier League with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United understood to be vying for his signature.
However, the Daily Star claim that the Merseysiders are now considered to be the favourites to sign the attacking midfielder and they hope a £50,000-a-week contract offer will be enough to persuade him to opt for a move to Anfield.
Lallana still has four years left on his current contract at St Mary’s but the South Coast club have large debts that need to be kept under control so the newspaper suggests they will be forced to cash-in if an offer of £25m is tabled.
Liverpool’s title hopes may have been rocked by yesterday’s loss to Chelsea but they have already secured Champions League football for next season so Brendan Rodgers is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer building a squad capable of coping with the extra strain European football will bring, and Lallana would be an excellent addition if they could manage to get a deal done.
United are also expected to be busy this summer with a new manager likely to be given sizeable funds to rebuild the squad following a disastrous campaign, but it appears they may have some catching up to do if they want to bring the England International to Old Trafford.
