£100m-Worth Of German Talent To Follow Van Gaal To United?
Louis van Gaal hopes to be confirmed as Man Utd’s new manager in the coming days and wants to spend £100m on German trio Mats Hummels, Marco Reus and Toni Kroos
As we approach the start of the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Louis van Gaal is already planning for life at Old Trafford.
Louis van Gaal hopes to be confirmed as Manchester United’s new manager in the coming days and wants the club to splash out around £100m on Mats Hummels, Marco Reus and Toni Kroos, according to the Daily Mail.
Negotiations have continued this week between United and van Gaal’s representatives with the experienced Dutchman lined-up as a potential successor to David Moyes following his sacking last week after a disastrous first season in charge.
The Daily Mail claim that van Gaal wants the deal concluded in a matter of days so he can resolve the future of his coaching staff and start preparing for life at the club. The former Barcelona boss is keen to take goalkeeping coach Frank Hoek with him to Old Trafford, and Hoek has promised to let Guus Hiddink – who will take over as Holland coach after the World Cup – know quickly whether he’ll be staying on with the national team or heading to England with van Gaal.
The newspaper also suggests that van Gaal wants to be given as much time as possible to work on United matters before he has to concentrate on the World Cup, and he’s already identified three players he would like to bring to Old Trafford, with German trio Hummels, Kroos and Reus understood to be his top targets.
Centre-back Hummels and attacking midfielder Reus currently play for Borussia Dortmund and appear settled at the club, and with Dortmund reluctant to lose any more star players following the recent exits of Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski, it’s going to require a huge offer to tempt the German giants to cash-in.
The future of Kroos is a little less certain as the midfielder is about to enter the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich and has been strongly linked with a move to United in recent months. Bayern insist they are under no pressure to sell, despite his precarious contract situation, so again United may have to dig deep if they want to sign the 24-year-old.
The Mail suggest it would take around £100m to land the trio, which shouldn’t be a problem for United as the club are understood to have around £200m available for transfers this summer, but it remains to be seen whether the club bosses will sanction such a move with the likes of Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw also believed to be on the radar this summer.
