Arsenal Set To Miss Out On ‘Done Deal’ Striker
Arsenal look set to miss out on Josip Drmic with reports in Germany claiming the Nuremberg striker will complete a switch to Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us the latest on Arsenal’s pursuit of Josip Drmic.
Arsenal look set to miss out on Josip Drmic with reports in Germany claiming the Nuremberg striker will complete a switch to Bayer Leverkusen this summer.
Drmic has been enjoying a sensational season in the Bundesliga where he’s managed to score an impressive 19 goals for a struggling Nuremberg side.
The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months with German legend Lothar Matthaus insisting on more than one occasion that the young hot-shot would be moving to North London this summer.
Matthaus, who now works as a pundit for German television, claimed back in March that Drmic was set to join Arsenal and said the players wife was already looking for a flat in London.
“Drmic is linked to Arsenal. I know that his wife is already looking for a flat in London,”
“I’d like to think that he will successfully finish the season at Nuernberg and then will be sold at a profit. Address: Arsenal, London.” Matthaus is quoted as saying by ESPN.
Drmic was quizzed on this speculation and although the striker revealed that he is not married and insisted that no-one is looking for a flat in London, he did admit it was his dream to play for the Gunners.
“I am single right now. And there is no-one looking for a flat in London,”
“What the future will bring, I don’t know. Every lad dreams of joining Arsenal,” Drmic is quoted as saying by ESPN.
Matthaus stood his ground and reiterated that Drmic would join Arsenal for £8m this summer, and insisted that a women acting on behalf of the player was looking for a flat for the pair to live in. The former German captain then claimed he would be proved right again having previously predicted the transfers of Robert Lewandowski and Adrian Ramos.
He told German publication to Bild.
“Drmic will join Arsenal for eight million pounds,” he told Bild.
“It’s a fact that there is a woman, and I know her name, looking for a flat. I was right with [Robert] Lewandowski and [Adrian] Ramos [whose transfers he predicted on Sky Deutschland]. And I will be proved right again.”
However, it seems as though Matthaus could be left red-faced as the Mirror cite reports coming out of Germany that claim Drmic has already agreed to join Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season in a deal believed to be worth nearer £4.5m.
It’s going to be interesting to see how this one plays-out as Matthaus has been so adamant that his information is correct and that the player will join Arsenal, it will be real blow to his reputation if the striker ends up moving to Leverkusen.
It would also be disappointing for Arsenal to miss out as Drmic looks a real talent. He has bags of pace – which is something our side lacks at present – and he certainly knows where the goal is, and at 21 he still has his whole career ahead of him to improve further.

Obviously fans are hoping for a big-name striker to come in this summer but with Nicklas Bendtner almost certain to leave, we could really do with two front-men being signed and Drmic would be an excellent option.
