Liverpool Set To Make Move For £15m-Rated Chelsea Target

As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with Alberto Moreno.
Liverpool have put £15m-rated Chelsea target Alberto Moreno top of their wish-list as Brendan Rodgers looks to sign a new left-back this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Reds are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer after seeing their title bid derailed during the final stages of the season and Rodgers knows he’ll have to add depth to his squad in reparation for returning to the Champions League next year.
While the Merseysiders were devastating in attack last season, their leaky defence – which shipped 50 goals – ended up costing them the title, so defensive recruits are almost certainly going to be on the agenda this summer.
The Liverpool Echo claim a left-back is Rodgers’ top priority and he has made Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno his No.1 target. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a hugely impressive campaign that ended with him lifting the Europa League trophy on Wednesday night following a shoot-out victory over Benfica.
The newspaper suggests that Liverpool will try their luck when the transfer window re-opens and Moreno will command a fee in the region of £15m, however, the Anfield club will have to fend off interest from Chelsea with the Blues also understood to be hot on the youngsters trail.
Ashley Cole is poised to leave Stamford Bridge when his contract expires next month leaving Jose Mourinho with a void to fill and it appears he too is a big admirer of Moreno’s, so the duo are set to battle it out for the players signature this summer.
Moreno has recently been rewarded for his fine form by being named in Spain’s provisional 30-man squad for this summers World Cup finals, so Rodgers and Mourinho may want to try and get any potential deal tied up quickly to avoid a bidding war should the young defender shine in Brazil.
With Jose Enrique missing the vast majority of last season due to a serious knee injury and on-loan Aly Cissokho failing to convince, Jon Flanagan was forced to deputise at left-back at Liverpool during the second half of the season. The youngster performed well enough but his future is likely to be on the right-side of the defence so it’s no surprise Rodgers is keen to bring in a more established left-back and Moreno is one of the hottest properties around.

It would be a huge statement of intent if the Merseysiders were able to land the talented Spaniard, but it looks like they’ll have to fight-it-out with Chelsea if they want to lure him to Anfield this summer.
