Sanchez + Song Heading To Chelsea As Part Of €35m Swap Deal?
Barcelona are ready to offer Chelsea Alexis Sanchez and Alex Song in exchange for Brazilian defender David Luiz this summer, according to reports in Portugal.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, could Chelsea agree a double swap deal with Barcelona?
Barcelona are ready to offer Chelsea Alexis Sanchez and Alex Song in exchange for Brazilian defender David Luiz this summer, according to reports in Portugal.
The Catalans have been strongly linked with a move for Luiz over the past 12 months and with Carles Puyol set to leave the club after tonight’s final La Liga game, it seems they have identified the afro-haired South American as the ideal replacement.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola claims that Barca will make a move for the 27-year-old in the coming weeks but are reluctant to meet Chelsea €35m asking price, so are willing to offer both Alexis Sanchez and Alex Song as part of the deal.
Both players are expected to made available as part of a major squad overhaul at the Nou Camp this summer with the club keen to take advantage of their transfer ban being suspended pending an appeal.
Whether Jose Mourinho will be interested in the swap deal remains to be seen but it will surely be a tempting proposition, especially with Sanchez being included. The Chilean international may not have lived up to his promise following a big-money move from Udinese three years ago, but he’s still an excellent player.
The attacking midfielder has just enjoyed his best season in a Barca shirt, scoring 20 goals and providing 15 assists in his 53 appearances, so he’s certainly be a useful addition to the Chelsea attack if he did end up making the move to West London.
Mourinho’s priority remains a centre-forward but a goal-scoring wide man like Sanchez, who can also play through the middle, would give the Blues even more threat going forward next season.
Luiz has been deployed as a defensive midfielder for much of the season so Song could be viewed as a like-for-like replacement as the Cameroonian international is also capable of playing at the back if needed. He may not be able to keep the likes of Ramires or Nemanja Matic out the first team, but he’d certainly be a useful player to have around the squad.

Therefore, if Luiz is surplus to requirements this summer, Mourinho could do a lot worse than considering a swap deal for Sanchez and Song if Barcelona do end up offering the duo in exchange over the coming weeks.
