Kroos To United Off! Van Gaal Pulls Plug On Proposed £20m Deal For Bayern Ace
Man Utd have ended their interest in Toni Kroos after new boss Louis van Gaal told the clubs hierarchy he didn’t want to sign the Bayern Munich midfielder.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, has Louis van Gaal ended United’s interest in Toni Kroos?
Manchester United have ended their interest in Toni Kroos after new boss Louis van Gaal told the clubs hierarchy he doesn’t want to sign the Bayern Munich midfielder this summer, according to the Guardian.
Kroos has been on United’s radar for well over 12 months and with the German international about to enter the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena and no sign of an extension being agreed, speculation has been rife that he could be on his way to Old Trafford.
Widespread reports in this morning’s newspapers claimed the deposed Premier League champions were on the verge of completing their first major signing of the summer after supposedly agreeing a £20m deal with Bayern Munich to sign the 24-year-old midfielder.
However, it appears either those reports are wide of the mark or Louis van Gaal has made a late decision to pull the plug on the move as the Guardian are now reporting that the Dutchman has told United chiefs he doesn’t want to pursue Kroos any longer.
The Telegraph are also running the same story so it looks like there is definitely something in this and it will come as a major blow to United fans, who were understandably excited by the prospect of the club signing such an established player. It would also have been a major statement of intent had United pulled off this major coup, but it seems van Gaal has other targets in mind as he looks to rebuild their flagging squad after a disastrous season under David Moyes.
Obviously things could change the deeper into the summer we go and van Gaal may choose to renew his interest in Kroos, but Bayern president Karl Hopfner has confirmed they are hoping to hold further talks with the player over an extension but has called for the midfielder to outline his demands.
“There will certainly be further talks. But at some point the player has to say what he wants,”
“We will not exceed certain financial boundaries.”
“It was the same with Michael Ballack and at some point we withdrew the offer.” Hopfner is quoted as saying by the Guardian.
I must say, I’m hugely shocked to read that van Gaal has withdrawn United’s interest as Kroos looks like he’d be the perfect man to sort out United’s midfield problems. The center of the park was clearly a weak area for them last season and a player of Kroos’ quality would have made an immediate impact.

He would also have been a bargain at £20m so it’s a real surprise that van Gaal looks to have backed out of the proposed deal. However, the only silver lining for United fans will be that the Dutch master must have some pretty special targets in mind if he’s not interested in Kroos, so it will be interesting to see who he goes for now…..
