Man Utd Set To Open Talks Over Double Swoop
Man Utd will open talks with Feyenoord over the double signing of Jordy Clasie and Bruno Martins Indi with the view of tying up the deals after the World Cup.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with a double swoop.
Manchester United are ready to open initial talks with Feyenoord over the double signing of Jordy Clasie and Bruno Martins Indi with the view of tying up the deals after the World Cup, according to reports.
New United boss Louis van Gaal is ready to freshen up the squad following a disastrous campaign under David Moyes and it looks like he’s going to try and bring some familiar faces with him to Old Trafford.
The Mirror claim that the Dutchman wants Feyenoord duo Jordy Clasie and Bruno Martins Indi to join him in England next season but any moves will be delayed until after the World Cup to avoid any potential unrest in the Dutch camp ahead of Brazil 2014.
van Gaal is due to lead Holland into the World Cup finals before taking over at United and he knows he could disgruntle large sections of support back in his homeland if he signs two of Feyenoord’s star men, and he doesn’t want to rock the boat by doing any deals for his Dutch players before the tournament to avoid any conflict of interest.
Instead, the newspaper suggests United chiefs will make discreet contact with Feyenoord over the coming weeks to begin initial talks with a view to sealing a double deal after the World Cup ends.
Clasie is a 22-year-old midfielder who has emerged as a potential star of the future after an impressive season in the Eredivisie for Feyenoord. Central midfield was a problem area for United last season and it’s certainly somewhere van Gaal is expected to strengthen, and he clearly rates Clasie highly as he’s expected to start the youngster this summer.
Martins Indi is also likely to start at the back for Holland and the imposing centre-back could be the perfect fit in another troublesome area for United. With Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand leaving this summer, van Gaal is going to need to bring in at least one central defender and 22-year-old Martins Indi could be a long-term solution.
