Brazilian Ace School-Hunting In Manchester As United Close In On £24m Deal
Man Utd are on the verge of signing Atletico Madrid defender Miranda after making it clear they are prepared to meet the Brazilian’s €30m (£24m) release clause
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are linked with Miranda.
Manchester United are on the verge of signing Atletico Madrid defender Miranda after making it clear they are prepared to meet the Brazilian’s €30m (£24m) release clause, according to Spanish newspaper AS.
Miranda has been a rock at the back for Atletico since joining the club on a free transfer from Sao Paulo in 2011 and made 45 appearances last season to help Diego Simeone’s men land the La Liga title and narrowly miss out on a historic double after losing to Real Madrid in last weeks Champions League final.
However, his time at the Vicente Calderon looks like coming to an end this summer with AS reporting that Manchester United have been in contact with the Spanish champions and confirmed they are willing to meet the 29-year-old’s €30m (£24m) buy-out clause.
The newspaper suggests that while Atletico have no intention of dismantling their title-winning team, there is little they can do if a club triggers a clause in a players contract and Miranda is already believed to be looking for schools for his children in the Manchester area.
New United boss Louis van Gaal is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer as he looks to rebuild the former champions flagging squad and central defence has become a priority area after Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand left the club.

Miranda has been one of the most consistent defenders in Spain in recent seasons and he’d make for a superb short-term signing. However, with the Brazilian approaching his 30th birthday, you’d have to question the logic in United spending £24m on a player who they are only likely to get two or three seasons out of with little sell-on value.
