Man Utd Boss Eyes £100m Triple Swoop
Louis van Gaal wants to bring Mats Hummels, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Muller to the club in a triple swoop that’s likely to cost in the region of £100m
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Manchester United are linked with a triple swoop.
New Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wants to bring Mats Hummels, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Muller to the club this summer in a triple swoop that’s likely to cost in the region of £100m, according to reports today.
Van Gaal is expected to be busy in the transfer marker over the coming weeks after being installed as the permanent successor to David Moyes following a disastrous campaign last season that led to the Red Devils not only relinquishing their Premier League title, but also saw them miss out on European qualification altogether.
The Dutchman has been handed a huge transfer kitty to rebuild the United squad with and the Daily Mail claim he has identified three German stars as his key targets with Hummels, Schweinsteiger and Muller understood to be on his radar.
The newspaper suggests that van Gaal has asked chairman Ed Woodward to try and negotiate the deals while he’s away with Holland at the World Cup, with the triple swoop expected to set the club back in the region of £100m if they were to be successful in luring the trio to Old Trafford.
It’s certainly an ambitious list of targets and it’s going to be difficult for United to pull them off. With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic both leaving this summer, there’s no doubt at least one centre-back is required and Hummels would be a superb signing. However, Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to let him go without a fight so United are going to have their work cut out in prizing him away from the Westfalenstadion.
Muller is keen to hold talks with Bayern Munich about his long-term role at the club after failing to establish himself as a vital member of Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven last season, but the German giants aren’t expected to welcome any interest in the attacker and are under no pressure to sell as he’s tied to a long-term contract.
Therefore, unless United can tempt Bayern with an offer they can’t refuse or Muller is able to force a move, it’s going to be extremely difficult to sign the 24-year-old German international this summer.
However, they could have more joy with Schweinsteiger. The Daily Mail claim the 29-year-old is open to joining United and reports in recent days have suggested the midfielder could be deemed as dispensable by Guardiola.

It remains to be seen whether that turns out to be the case but he would be a superb signing if United could pull it off. Central midfield was an area of concern last season and Schweinsteiger would offer a wealth of experience as well as being one of the most talented midfielders in Europe.
