Chelsea Agree €25m Deal To Sign Brazilian International
Chelsea are on the verge of completing their second major signing of the summer after the club agreed to pay Atletico Madrid €25m for left-back Filipe Luis.
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea close in on the signing of Filipe Luis.
Chelsea are on the verge of completing their second major signing of the summer with reports claiming the club have agreed to pay Atletico Madrid €25m for left-back Filipe Luis.
The Brazilian international has just enjoyed an excellent season with Atletico where he was virtually ever-present as Diego Simeone’s side pipped Barcelona to the La Liga title on the final day of the season and narrowly missed out on a historic double after losing to Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League.
However, it looks like the 28-year-old won’t be around to help Ateltico defend their title as the Daily Mail are reporting that Chelsea have agreed to pay the left-back’s €25m release clause and he will be heading to Stamford Bridge this summer.
The news comes after Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that a deal has now been agreed between the two clubs and Atletico have already paved the way for Luis’ exit after signing Guilherme Siqueira from Granada for €10m last week.
Boss Jose Mourinho is on the look-out for another left-back as Ashley Cole is set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the month, and Luis will certainly be an excellent addition. Although there are some who are questioning the decision to spend over £20m on a player who turns 29 next month and will have very little sell-on value.
The Brazilian will compete with Cesar Azpilicueta for the left-back slot next season and will move to West London along with Atletico team-mates Tiago and Diego Costa, with deals already in place to sign the duo this summer.
