Spurs Eye €21m Bid For Man Utd Target, But He Wants Old Trafford Switch
Spurs are readying a €21m bid for Dutch youngster Memphis Depay but face competition from Man Utd as the player is believed to favour a switch to Old Trafford
As we approach the opening of the summer window clubs will be intensifying their efforts in the transfer market so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Tottenham and Man Utd are linked with Memphis Depay.
Tottenham are readying a €21m bid for Dutch youngster Memphis Depay but face competition from Manchester United and the player is believed to favour a switch to Old Trafford, according to reports.
Depay is a tricky left-winger who is currently on the books at PSV and he’s impressed at this summers World Cup where he came off the bench to score the winner for Holland against Australia on Wednesday.
The youngster is being tipped for a move this summer and the Express claim that Spurs scouts have been watching the 20-year-old closely, and the North Londoners are now ready to formalise their interest with a whopping €21m (£17m) bid.
However, before Spurs fans get too excited by the prospect of signing a player dubbed as the ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’, the newspaper suggests that new Man Utd boss Louis van Gaal is also keen on Depay and the player is believed to have already told his agent, Kees Ploegsma Jr, he wants a move to Old Trafford.
Ploegsma Jr was recently quizzed about the players future and he admitted they will take a look at things after the World Cup.
“Memphis should just concentrate on the World Cup to show what progress he has made. Then we’ll see.” Ploegsma Jr is quoted as saying by the Express
Since van Gaal has been announced as being the new United manager, the club have been linked with practically the entire Dutch squad, so it’s difficult to know how much truth there is in these reports linking them with Depay.
But if we take it at face value and trust that the Express report is accurate, then it looks as though it will be extremely difficult for Spurs to persuade the winger to opt for White Hart Lane over Old Trafford, and I’m sure the players relationship with van Gaal will play a big role if he does end up choosing Manchester.

Van Gaal is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer and it would be no surprise if he turned his head to some of his trusted Holland squad, and Depay would be an exciting addition.
