Chelsea Set To Battle It Out With Liverpool For €25m Attacker
Chelsea are set to battle it out with rivals Liverpool to try and sign €25m-rated French attacker Antoine Griezmann this summer, according to reports.
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea join Liverpool in the race for Antoine Griezmann.
Chelsea are set to battle it out with Liverpool to try and sign €25m-rated French attacker Antoine Griezmann this summer, according to reports.
Griezmann has emerged as one of the most exciting attackers in Europe after an excellent season in Spain with Real Sociedad where he scored 20 goals in 49 games in all competitions.
His form saw him earn a place in Didier Deschamps 23-man World Cup squad and he impressed over in Brazil before the French were knocked out in the quarter finals by eventual winners Germany.
Griezmann has made no secret that he’s considering his future this summer and it looks as though he’s set for a move away after rejecting Sociedad’s latest contract extension offer two weeks ago.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with the 23-year-old in recent weeks with reports claiming Brendan Rodgers is set to table a €25m (£20m) bid as he looks to reinforce his attacking options following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.
However, it looks like the Merseysiders will now face some stiff competition as the Metro are citing Spanish newspaper Sport as saying that Chelsea have now entered the chase for Griezmann’s signature.
Jose Mourinho has been extremely active already this summer bringing in both Diego Costa and Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid, as well as Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, and Griezmann would be another excellent addition to an already formidable looking squad at Stamford Bridge if the Blues are able to beat Liverpool to his signing.

The French attacker is capable of playing out wide or through the middle so would give either Mourinho or Rodgers plenty of options in attack. The player is expected to resolve his future when he returns from a post-World Cup break next week and it looks like he’ll have two tempting options in the Premier League if he fancies a new challenge.
