The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea have completed the signing of Filipe Luis.
Chelsea have completed the signing of Brazilian defender Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid in a deal believed to be worth up to €25m, the club have confirmed this evening.
The Blues announced on Wednesday that they had struck a deal with La Liga champions Atletico to sign Luis subject to a medical examination and personal terms being agreed.
Those formalities have now been completed and the west Londoners have confirmed on Friday night that the 28-year-old has signed a three year contract. While no official fee has been disclosed, the Daily Mail claim the deal will eventually rise to €25m (£20m).
After completing the move, Luis told the clubs website that it’s a dream come true to play for Chelsea and he’s looking forward to playing in the Premier League.
‘This move is a dream come true for me. I now have the opportunity to play for Chelsea, and also in the Premier League.
‘I’m very happy and looking forward to getting started and giving my best for the team during the coming seasons.’
Jose Mourinho has been on the look-out for an experienced left-back to replace Ashley Cole after he joined Roma on a free transfer earlier this summer and Luis soon emerged as a key target.
The Brazilian international has just come off the back of an excellent season with Atletico where he helped Diego Simeone’s side lift the La Liga title and make it all the way to the final of the Champions League where they lost to rivals Real.
He’s know for his attacking instincts and has a superb delivery from the left, and he’ll now battle it out with Cesar Azpilicueta for a place in Mourinho’s starting eleven.
