Brazilian Keen On Chelsea Switch As Mourinho Plots €25m Bid For Man Utd Target
Chelsea are lining-up another raid on Atletico Madrid with reports claiming Jose Mourinho is set to table a €25m bid for Manchester United target Joao Miranda.
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Chelsea are lining up a bid for Man Utd target Joao Miranda.
Chelsea are lining-up another raid on Atletico Madrid with reports claiming Jose Mourinho is set to table a €25m bid for Manchester United target Joao Miranda.
The Brazilian centre-back played a key role in Atletico Madrid’s march towards the La Liga title and Champions League final appearance last season and has been a rock at the heart of Diego Simeone’s side side joining from Sao Paulo in 2011.
His impressive form attracted interest from Manchester United with reports last month suggesting that the Red Devils were set to table a bid for the 29-year-old as Louis van Gaal looks for an experienced defender following the exits of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
However, a bid from Old Trafford has so far failed to materialise and it appears Chelsea are now ready to swoop in and try and lure Miranda to Stamford Bridge instead.
The Daily Star claim that the Blues made initial enquiries over the defenders availability when they were finalising a deal for Filipe Luis last week and further negotiations are expected to be held over the coming days to see if yet another deal can be done between the two clubs.
Chelsea have already signed Diego Costa and Filipe Luis from Atletico this summer and Simeone must be worried that his title-winning side is getting picked apart by the west London outfit.
The newspaper suggests that although Simeone is desperate to keep hold of Miranda, the player has made it clear he wants to leave and is open to a move to Chelsea, and Mourinho is now supposedly ready to test the Spaniard’s resolve with a €25m bid.
It not clear whether that will be enough to persuade Atletico to cash in or whether they hold out for the full €30m it would take to trigger the players release clause, but with the defender seemingly wanting out, it looks like Miranda could be set to follow Costa and Luis to Stamford Bridge this summer.
