Spanish Attacker Claims Chelsea Interest
Spanish attacker Jose Callejon claims that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is interested in taking him to west London this summer but insists he’s happy at Napoli
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Jose Callejon claims interest from Chelsea.
Spanish attacker Jose Callejon claims that Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is interested in taking him to west London this summer but insists he’s happy at Napoli, according to reports.
Callejon came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid but failed to make the grade at the Bernabeu and was eventually sold to Espanyol in 2008 without making a first team appearance for the club.
However, after three years at the Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, the Spaniard returned to the La Liga giants in 2011 when then-boss Jose Mourinho re-sign him and gave him a chance in the Madrid first team squad.
Callejon scored 13 goals in 36 appearances during his first year back at the club but struggled during his second season and eventually joined Napoli last summer when Mourinho moved back to Chelsea.
The attacker has rediscovered his form in Italy and bagged 20 goals for Rafa Benitez’ team last year, but it wasn’t enough to convince Vicente Del Bosque to include him in the Spain squad for this summers World Cup finals in Brazil.
While he may have been overlooked by his country, it appears his impressive form hasn’t gone unnoticed at Stamford Bridge with the 27-year-old claiming that Jose Mourinho is keen on linking-up with him again at Chelsea this summer. Callejon told reporters:
“I have heard many things about me,”
“I know that Mourinho wants to hire me.” Callejon is quoted as saying by the Daily Star
However, any potential move to the Premier League is unlikely to happen as the player went on to say he’s happy to remain at Napoli. He continued:
“I am happy in this team and this city.”
Callejon is a versatile attacker who can play anywhere across the front three positions but it seems despite Chelsea already signing Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa this summer, Mourinho is keen on bringing in further attacking reinforcements and had identified Callejon as a target.
The Portuguese coach may have viewed the Spaniard as a potential replacement for Demba Ba after the Senegalese international joined Besiktas, while Fernando Torres has also been tipped for a move back to Spain.

But it looks like Mourinho will have to look elsewhere if he wants to add to his strike-force as Callejon appears content in Italy with Napoli.
