Liverpool Hope To Hijack Man Utd’s Deal By Matching €54m Bid
Liverpool are ready to launch a stunning attempt to hijack Manchester United’s move for Arturo Vidal by matching their €53m bid for the Juventus midfielder
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with Man Utd target Arturo Vidal.
Liverpool are ready to launch a stunning attempt to hijack Manchester United’s move for Arturo Vidal by matching their €53m bid for the Juventus midfielder, according to reports.
United have been strongly linked with a move for Vidal this summer with new boss Louis van Gaal seemingly identifying the Chilean international as a key target for his new-look side at Old Trafford.
Reports from Italy on Tuesday claimed that United were ready to table a mammoth bid to try and persuade Juventus to cash in on the 27-year-old, and the former champions are also believed to be ready to tempt the midfielder with a contract worth over £5m-per-season.
The intense speculation has led to many bookmakers slashing the odds of Vidal making the move to Old Trafford this summer. However, it seems United may now have to face some stiff competition for his signature as the Metro are citing reports coming out of Chile that claim Liverpool are now set to make a sensational hijack attempt.
The newspaper quotes El Mercurio as saying that the Merseysiders are ready to match United’s €53m (£42.5m) offer and with Real Madrid now unable to finance such a deal following the capture of James Rodriguez, it leaves United and Liverpool to battle it out for Vidal’s signature.
Brendan Rodgers has significant funds remaining following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and the Northern Irishman is understood to be on the look-out for a ‘marquee’ signing, and Vidal would certainly fit the bill.
The Anfield club also have the added advantage of being able to offer Champions League football this season, so it will be interesting to see where Vidal would choose should both clubs be successful in agreeing a deal with Juve.

The Serie A champions have publicly shown no desire to sell their star man, but TuttoSport speculated yesterday that privately the club know they may have to cash-in if a significant offer comes in to help ease their financial concerns, so they may find it difficult to reject these proposed €53m offers being lined-up by Liverpool and United.
