Liverpool Eye Chelsea Swoop After Failing To Strike Deal For £20m Spaniard
Liverpool have renewed their interest in Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand after refusing to match Sevilla’s £20m asking price for Alberto Moreno, according to reports
The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are back in for Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand.
Liverpool have renewed their interest in Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand after refusing to match Sevilla’s £20m asking price for Alberto Moreno, according to reports today.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is on the look-out for a new left-back this summer to offer competition to Jose Enrique – who missed large parts of last season with a serious knee injury – and youngster Jon Flanagan next season.
The Northern Irishman missed out on Ben Davies after he joined Tottenham on Wednesday while he’s also been strongly linked with a move for Alberto Moreno but the Merseysiders have so far been unable to strike a deal with Sevilla, with the La Liga outfit refusing to budge on their £20m valuation of the Spanish international.
With talks at a stalemate, the Daily Star claim that Liverpool have now renewed their interest in Ryan Bertrand after coming close to signing the 24-year-old from Chelsea back in January. A fee was understood to have been agreed during the winter window but a deal failed to get over the line and Bertrand eventually joined Aston Villa on loan.
The newspaper suggests that Liverpool are willing to pay £8m for the full-back, but it’s thought Jose Mourinho may want to hold out for more as he views the Merseysiders as a real title threat after watching them finish above his side last season.
Bertrand is understood to be keen on the move as he looks to kick-start his career after a frustrating few years at Stamford Bridge, but it remains to be seen whether the two clubs are going to be able to agree on a fee.
Chelsea have recently signed Brazilian international Filipe Luis from Atletico Madrid and he’s expected to battle it out with Cesar Azpiliceuta for the left-back role next season after the Spaniard filled in admirably in an unfamiliar position last year.
This leaves Bertrand out in the cold and a move away from west London is almost a certainty this summer, and Liverpool appear keen to offer him an escape route, but we’ll have to wait and see whether a deal can be agreed.
