Colombian Attacker Set To Fly To London Ahead Of €20m Arsenal Move

Reports this evening claim that Porto’s Colombain international attacker Juan Fernando Quintero is set to travel to London ahead of a €20m move to Arsenal.

The summer transfer window is now open for business and it’s expected to be a busy few weeks as managers strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news of Arsenal’s interest in Juan Fernando Quintero.

Arsenal could be set to complete their fifth signing of the summer with reports this evening claiming that Porto attacker Juan Fernando Quintero is set to travel to London ahead of a €20m move to the Emirates.

News first emerged of possible interest from Arsenal earlier this week when speculation circulated that we had agreed a €20m (£15.8m) fee with Porto for the 21-year-old play-maker.

Most fans shrugged it off as nothing more than idle paper talk, however, the Metro are now citing reports coming out of Portugal that claim a deal really has been agreed and the player is now due to travel to London this weekend to complete the transfer.

The report appears to have originated from a journalist named Diego Rueda – who the Metro claim is well respected – and he suggests that Quintero trained for the last time with Porto on Thursday and said his goodbyes, and will now head over to the UK over the coming days to complete a €20m move.

It’s difficult to know how much to read into these reports as there is so much speculation around these days, but we’ll have to take them at face value until more information comes out. The Daily Star are also running a similar story and they claim the deal could be announced on Friday, so there certainly appears to be something in this.

Assuming these reports are accurate and Quintero is joining Arsenal, then he’d be another extremely exciting purchase. The youngster is predominately a play-maker who plays in an advanced midfield role but he’s also capable of playing on the left wing and is known for his pace and skill.

He’s just come off the back of an impressive season for Porto which earned him a place in the Colombian World Cup squad, and he came off the bench to score the winner against Ivory Coast in the group stages.

However, while Quintero would be a useful addition to the squad, I have a feeling his arrival is likely to see someone leave, and I just hope it’s not Santi Cazorla. The Spaniard has been strongly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid this summer and with Quintero able to play in the same role, his signing would indicate that Santi could be heading back home.

We’ll have to see how things pan out over the next couple of days but as excited as I’d be about Quintero’s signature, I’d be more gutted to see Cazorla leave the club this summer.

Someone will have to move on if this is true as Quintero is past his 21st birthday. One of the 17 non-home grown players will have to leave. I hope it is not Santi. Without his free kick against Hull in the FA cup final, Wenger would have either have resigned or been asked to leave. Santi is a superb player and when our game has got so slow, he always manages to inject some urgency. If only Arteta could go and then we could get Khedira and Kpow!!

No quintero is born 1993 so like chamberlain and sanogo he doesn’t take a place in the 25 this season.

It seems wenger has one eye on this season sanchez debuchy ospina and one eye on the future too.

With Jenks now moved on we currently sit at 25 players born 1992 or before. However, question marks are hanging over vermaelen, cazorla, podolski, ryo, miquel, coquelin, martinez and campbell. I cannot see all those 8 being in the squad come 1st september.

WENGER, this time i think i should give you a little respect if you can bring in a play maker and not selling any player in the squad. What happen last season would not have hapen if there are enough replacement on the bench, so think well .@j.f.1

I agree with you brother, 100%. Santi on the left might not have seemed too effective last season, but wait till its Sanchez and Walcott on the run…Santi and Ozil will rock the show, and if I was to choose between the two, I would chose Santi!

Currently we only have 16 foreign players in the squad over 21 so there is place for one more. Also, Ryo will most likely be sold or sent out on loan and that will free up another spot for a DM and/or Khedira.

We probably will also see Arteta, Flamini and Podolski leaving next year which will free up 3 more spots for new arrivals, so we are in very good shape squad wise to meet current FA Homegrown rules.

And, please don’t sell Santi this season !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not a Gunner, but i have to admit that this dude is absolutely sensational and has a massive quality and Arsenal are a great club with one of the utmost beautiful style of play that excites every football fan, i’m sure he’ll develop even better and get a worldwide recognition under Wenger.
My belief is that Quintero will become an Arsenal player in the coming weeks, it has been reported by Metro and other few sources.

pls papa Wenger don’t even try that decision by selling Santo carzola.although there’s a saying that football is an ungreatful game, but as a foresighted individual, one can never doubt his ability in the pitch & don’t forget,he is different from all arsenal players & even almost all premier league players.I stand to be corrected !!!

santi is one of the best currently if wenger makes the mistake to sell him then is myopic indeed.

    August 1, 2014 at 7:55 am

Cmon guys, no one is selling Santi. Quintero only means the Giroud is now a sub. Until Walcot is fit, front attackers will be Quintero on the right, Santi on the left and Sanchez through the middle….

Unless there is a change on formation…
