Manchester United To Table €69m Attacker Bid Tonight
Manchester United are set to make a late bid to hijack Paris Saint-Germain’s move for Angel Di Maria by matching their €69m offer for the Real Madrid attacker
The summer transfer window is now well under way and managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd make their move for Angel Di Maria.
Manchester United are set to make a late bid to hijack Paris Saint-Germain’s move for Angel Di Maria by matching their €69m offer for the Real Madrid attacker, according to reports in Spain.
Di Maria has been widely tipped to leave the Bernabeu this summer following the arrivals of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos, and PSG and Man Utd have been leading the chase for the Argentinean international’s signature.
The Ligue 1 champions looked to have won the race with reports in recent weeks suggesting that Di Maria’s agent is in the process of tying up the loose ends of a move after Laurent Blanc’s men agreed terms with Madrid and they have supposedly already assigned the 26-year-old his own squad number.
However, Spanish newspaper Sport claim that United haven’t given up hope of luring the winger to Old Trafford and are set to match PSG’s €69m (£55m) offer, while the Metro also suggest that club officials will take the opportunity to put forward their proposal after their friendly on Saturday night.
It’s believed that Madrid would prefer to sell to United as they are able to pay the entire fee up front now, whereas PSG are planning to sign Di Maria on an initial 12-month loan deal before completing the €69m (£55m) permanent transfer next summer, as the French club can not make any more big signings this summer due to Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations.
If these reports are accurate, you’d have to say United should have a decent chance of hijacking PSG’s move as long as they can also persuade the player to move to Old Trafford. With the financial clout United boast, they shouldn’t have a problem finding an agreement over personal terms, the only problem could be whether Di Maria is willing to go without Champions League football for at least 12 months.
