Man Utd Agree €20m Deal To Sign Argentinean International
Manchester United have finally agreed terms over a €20m deal for Marcos Rojo that will see out-of-favour winger Nani join Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan
The summer transfer window is now well under way and managers are working hard to strengthen their squads ahead of next season, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd agree a deal to sign Sporting Lisbon’s Marcos Rojo.
Manchester United have finally agreed terms over a €20m deal for Marcos Rojo that will see out-of-favour winger Nani join Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan, according to reports.
Rojo has just come off the back of an impressive season at Sporting and has continued his fine form into the World Cup where he’s started in five of Argentina’s six games en route to the finals.
His performances attracted interest from United but their initial €20m (£16m) offer was rejected by Sporting Lisbon with president Bruno de Carvalho insisting the club won’t be pushed into selling the defender.
This didn’t go down too well in the players camp and Rojo had refused to train with the club before apologising for his behaviour over the weekend – although this was seen as a ploy to help try and facilitate a away rather than build bridges with the Portuguese club.
“It was all a misunderstanding, I was a hothead,”
“I’m sorry for what happened because I feel that I was unprofessional.
“I want to tell the people that I didn’t behave correctly, but I’m am very fond of this club. They are the ones that will decide my career, and I hope it will be the best both for me and the club. But I want to stress that I’m very happy at the club, and I like the way I’m treated and the care they give me.” Rojo is quoted as saying by Goal
Doyen Sports – a management company who own 75 per cent of Rojo’s economic rights – were also furious that Sporting had rejected United’s offer, but the fact that the club would also need to pay 20 per cent of any fee over £4m to the players former club Spartak Moscow, it means Sporting would make very little from a £16m sale.
However, Goal claim that after lengthy negotiations between all parties, Sporting have agreed to accept United’s new proposal that includes taking Nani on a season-long loan as well as €20m in cash, with the fee increasing depending on a number of performance-based factors.
Nani has fallen out-of-favour at Old Trafford over the past two seasons and despite signing a new long-term contract just last summer, the 27-year-old now looks set to return to the club where he spent two seasons before moving to Old Trafford in 2007.
The report states that United will cover the majority of the wingers wages during his loan and in addition to taking the Portuguese international, there’s a chance that Anderson could head to Sporting on a short-term deal.

If all goes to plan, then Rojo will become United’s third major summer signing following the arrivals of Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw and he’ll give boss Louis van Gaal another option in defence. The Dutchman has reverted to a 3-5-2 formation and Rojo is a player that will be capable of playing as a left-sided centre-back or as an attacking wing-back.
