Man Utd Set To Make £56m Bid After Di Maria Tells Rojo He Wants Old Trafford Move
Angel Di Maria has told Man Utd new-boy Marcos Rojo he wants to join him at Old Trafford as the Red Devils prepare to make a record bid for the Real Madrid ace
The summer transfer window is now reaching its climax and managers are working hard to make some last minute additions to their squad, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Man Utd close in on Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria.
Angel Di Maria has told Man Utd new-boy Marcos Rojo he wants to join him at Old Trafford as the Red Devils prepare to make a record bid for the unsettled Real Madrid attacker, according to reports.
Di Maria has been tipped to leave the Bernabeu all summer due to concerns over his first team place following the arrivals of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos.
Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti admitted last week that the Argentinean attacker has asked for a move after rejecting a new contract extension offer, and Man Utd and Paris Saint-Germain have strongly linked with his signature in recent weeks.
It appears United are now edging ahead of their French rivals in the race as the Metro are citing Radio Marca as claiming that Di Maria has now made contact with international team-mate Marcos Rojo to inform the defender he wants to join him at Old Trafford this summer.
The news comes amid further reports that claim United bosses are ready to launch a club-record £56m bid for the 26-year-old, with terms over a £200,000-a-week contract believed to have been agreed in principal with the players camp.
PSG boss Laurent Blanc admitted on Friday that the Ligue 1 champions face a tough task in trying to lure Di Maria to the Parc des Princes this summer:
‘There are many clubs interested in Di Maria,’
‘PSG cannot do what we want. It’s a difficult case.’ Blanc is quoted as saying by the Metro.
So as it stands, all the signs are suggesting that Di Maria could be heading to Old Trafford before the transfer window closes on September 1st. The player supposedly wants the move, United are willing to pay big-money and personal terms are understood to have been agreed, so it certainly seems the deal could be close.
If United manage to get the deal done, it will be a major coup for Louis van Gaal but it will be interesting to see where he would fit in to the Dutchman’s first team plans. Juan Mata currently starts in the ‘hole’ behind Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, and it will take a brave manager to drop any of that trio.

Di Maria is predominantly a winger but he’s not really suited to playing the wing-back role in van Gaal’s new 3-5-2 formation as he won’t be keen on doing his bit in defence, so I’m intrigued as to how the Argentinean international will fit in at United if he does end up making the move.
