The summer transfer window is now reaching its climax and managers are working hard to make some last minute additions to their squad, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Manchester United are closing in on a triple swoop.
Manchester United are closing in on a sensational €112m triple swoop for Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind and Nigel de Jong, according to reports.
United’s disappointing start to the new season continued as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Sunderland on Sunday afternoon but it looks like Louis van Gaal is going to be busy strengthening his squad during the closing week of the transfer window.
Widespread reports claim the former champions have agreed a record €80m (£63.9m) fee with Real Madrid for Angel Di Maria with the player due to arrive in Manchester on Monday to hold talks with United chiefs.
Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti confirmed on Sunday that the 26-year-old has already said his goodbyes as he closes in on a switch to Old Trafford:
“Di Maria has not trained with us and he came in to say goodbye to the players and people at the club,”
“We are thankful for what he has done at this club. There is nothing official yet but it is being sorted out.” Ancelotti is quoted as saying by Sky Sports
Di Maria will be an excellent addition to van Gaal’s squad and offer a major threat in the attacking third. However, the Dutch boss is also looking to strengthen his midfield options with the Daily Star claiming United are closing in on a double swoop for Daley Blind and Nigel de Jong.
van Gaal currently has limited options in the middle of the park due to a spate of injuries but the Star suggest that former Manchester City hardman de Jong is now close to joining the Red Devils in a deal worth around €12m (£10m).
de Jong is allowed to leave AC Milan this summer and he’ll offer United some much-needed steel in midfield if he does end up making the move to Old Trafford before the window slams shut.
The report states that van Gaal will also bring in another of his Dutch internationals with United closing in on a €20m (£16m) deal for Ajax ace Blind. The 24-year-old can play at left-back, wing-back or in central midfield so will offer plenty of options to his former international manager.
