Arsenal Could Sign Midfielder For €30m Following Fresh Negotiations
Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of midfielder William Carvalho with Sporting Lisbon agreeing to reduce their asking price to €30m.
The summer transfer window is now reaching its climax and managers are working hard to make some last minute additions to their squad, so we’ll bring you all the latest news and gossip. Today, Gooner Mac brings us news on Arsenal’s pursuit of William Carvalho.
Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of William Carvalho with Sporting Lisbon agreeing to reduce their asking price to €30m as long as they get a player in exchange as well, according to reports today.
We’ve been strongly linked with Carvalho this summer and reports last week suggested we were contemplating an improved offer after seeing our opening €25m (£20m) bid rejected by Sporting.
It appears we have now re-opened talks with the Portuguese outfit as talkSPORT are claiming today that Sporting have now agreed to sell for around €30m (£25m) as long as they get a player in exchange as well, either on loan or on a permanent deal.
Carvalho’s buy-out clause is set at around €44m (£35m) so it looks like Sporting have reduced their asking price by £10m, which will make the deal far more tempting for boss Arsene Wenger.
The report suggests that Sporting are interested in Yaya Sanogo, Ryo Miyaichi, Serge Gnabry and Francis Coquelin. It’s highly unlikely Sanogo would be available unless Wenger is looking to bring in another striker, but I could certainly see the boss allowing any of the other three to leave.
Coquelin would give Sporting a replacement for Carvalho in midfield and he spent last season out on loan, so Wenger is likely to be open to the idea of him leaving the club either on another short-term deal or even on a permanent basis, especially if it meant we’d be able to land Carvalho.

The Portuguese international is a huge talent and I think he’d be an excellent signing for the club, so fingers crossed we’re able to thrash out a deal before the window closes in just over a weeks time.
